My timeline is certainly queer-dominated but I’ve seen several videos of Soho and pics of Old Compton Street featured in news articles, and yet not a single one from a street with several straight-bars.

I feel it clearly seems to be done to shift the blame to certain people.
The government was counting on this to happen. The message has been confusing from the start, providing leeway to justify less than sensible behaviour (Barnard castle, anyone?)
Pubs and bars are open: that is legal. The government encouraged people to go out and have a “super Saturday”

There was no message about masks. So why should people expected to know that?
And re: masks. Last weekend we went for a long walk and we saw a lot of people wearing masks incorrectly. They clearly know that masks are important, (which is good) but nobody (again the government) started a campaign in the same vein as the hand washing one on proper use.
I get the frustration. I am so desperate for this to improve. To hug friends, to fly home and see my family. Last night, unfortunately, will most likely make this more difficult.

But the outrage being directed at the revellers should instead be aimed firmly at the government.
