The fundamental principle underlying this, by the way, is that -voters- deserve representation. Political parties are (by and large - occasional Independent) how voters get that representation in parliament in most democracies.
Everyone has every right not to like particular political parties, but when systems (either because they are majoritarian like FPTP or have been gamed like folk want to do AMS) fail to represent the diversity of the electorate, it isn't "parties" that suffer, it's their voters.
