#traditions #customs #SaudiArabia #guests
1.Saudis are known by their extreme generosity. They receive millions of pilgrameges every year with remarkable welcoming and good reception. But how do they receive their own guests at their own homes.
2. In the past, before oil, when most Saudis were in need, they received guests & served them with what they had of food, dates happily! Why?! Generosity of Saudis resulted from their religious attitude that they gained from their ancestors who accompanied prophet Mohammad PBUH
3. Arabic morals of helping weak people, respect senior and women and generosity is another trait that Islam supported and prophet praised. He said" I was sent to complete high morals. "
4. In the past, when a guest comes, the host received him out of his house or tent and welcomed him loudly and let him sets at the best place of the house/tent! Guest/s never been asked about his name or Why did he come for 3days!
5. The host used to give him water to drink or milk, then the Arabic coffee & dates. He gives the food to the guests first then others if there is neighbors or his children.
6.After that, he slaughtered goat and served it with broth or rice.
7. No difference of this reception nowadays. But I'm gonna write about a women guests, a friend or neighbors want to visit and spend some fun time with you. Not much difference but with a various food! Arabic & non Arabic, sweet and traditional food.. Etc.
8.First, you should call or text to see if set a time to meet.
9. Usually women visit after maghreb prayer or Isha prayer, about 6 or 7 pm. Their Stay lasts about 3/4hours. Some times less, some more!
10.guests usually received at best place in the house called Majlis. Some ppl put sepcial Majlis for women and they add extra mirrors and wordrobe for their Abyas. So, the host and her daughters or maid take their Abyas and hang them on this cupbord while they fix their make up
11. They first serve cold beverages.
12.Then they serve Arabic coffee with dates, traditional cockies, sweet, or any sugary food. Drinking coffee is most of the Stay.
13. If the guests want to Stay late, they serve dinner and after dinner, they serve tea. If not, they serve tea with different kinds of pastries.
14. At the end, they burn incense. Some people serve a try full of Oud and perfums and guests choose and spray on themselves. Then they walk them and give them their Abyas and accompany them till the doors with a lot thanks and hugs and kisses.
