Gerard Moreno's resurgence has been one of the highlights of the LaLiga season. The talent has always been there and the output pretty solid throughout his career but for the first time he could genuinely make the starting spot in Luis Enrique's Spanish NT his own.
For a player as well rounded as he is, it's surprising that Gerard has struggled to make the push to become a top quality striker.

The way he angles himself to open up space just before the shot, his striking power & every move he makes in the box is precise. Technically superb.
Perhaps Gerard's biggest strength is his first time shot off a pass. He's waiting for layoffs to happen... for unfortunate deflections and he then just slots the ball perfectly into the corner of the net. What it does is basically give the goalkeeper little to no time to react.
Then there's his dribbling ability which basically means that he's a threat on the right wing too.

And I've not even factored in his creative instincts. He creates a lot of chances and averages more than 1.5 key passes a game.
But for all his ability, consistency has always been an issue. Too often he fades away during games.

Moreno is overly reliant on his team's momentum. If his teammates are doing well, he'll do great. But if they're struggling, he'll struggle too.
I don't think he has a dip in form like a lot of other players do. Because he's able to recover quite easily when Villarreal do have a good game.

To take the next step, he must be able to take games by the scruff of the neck & score goals when Villarreal are in dire situations.
At 28, he's in his prime years. He scored 15 goals this season in 29 starts and also assisted 4 times.

Excellent return and he's well on course to break his highest tally of 16 goals.

This is also a chance for him to break Iago Aspas' stronghold on the Zarra trophy.
