The entire subject of school is an example of a country trapped in magical thinking, more of the “reopening” absurdity. How do you prevent your house from flooding? The biggest thing is making sure there’s no flood near your house. Fix the dam or your home is gonna be toast.
/ The lesson from around the world is that you need to get cases really really low. Once you do that a lot of things will be possible. You’ll still need mitigation, masks, distancing. But again if the water is ten feet deep on your street RIP your house.
/ We continue to have these absurd “reopening” discussions that are both highly politicized and highly hypothetical, meanwhile cases aren’t just not down they’re actually exploding in most of the country. We were so focused on different philosophies of reopening and ...
/ the politics of masking we forgot to get cases down. Things aren’t back to semi-normal in Europe and East Asia because they had some Elon Musk hyperloop of reopening. It’s because they focused on getting cases super low. We fucked up.
/ Personal Note: I’m anything but oblivious to the impact of school closures on kids and parents. I have two sons in middle school.
