There are many families that could have been celebrating July 4th but will never have the opportunity because they don't exist anymore.

Who was President at the time?
Warren G. Harding. (R)
Continued by
Calvin Coolidge (R)
Herbert Hoover (R)
Franklin D Roosevelt (D)
So before we get to WWII and what FDR could have done.
We have to recognize that millions of people ultimately went to the gas chambers because of this policy. This America First policy.
Somehow in our collective memory the blame all goes on FDR.
FDR did start the War Refugee Board that sponsored Raoul Wallenberg and saved Jews.
Unfortunately late. Better late than never. https://encyclopedia.ushmm.org/content/en/article/the-war-refugee-board
At the time the laws were enacted Jews were at the forefront in fighting the anti-immigration laws.
I imagine that this issue doesn't resonate with the frum community because the community consists of three parts.
(1) Those that came before the immigration restrictions were put on place.
(2) Those that came in the 30's through exemptions
(3) The bulk who came after the war.
The Holocaust replace the immigration laws in our collective memory.
So the easy target is FDR.
To his eternal shame FDR didn't even want to get into the war because he didn't want to lose the isolationist constituency.
But FDR inherited a country that was isolationist.
Fundamentally the US is a racist country.
At this time where we have an isolationist racist government, it is very painful that the Hareidim are all in with this government.
