LOT of y'all need to hear this! In Indian context at least, your vegetarianism isn't a CHOICE if you've never had non-veg, it comes from inherent Casteism. The idea that those who eat non-veg are impure and gross are deep rooted in casteism & racism. You dont have to be PROUD
Celebrating meat ban (of any kind) is such an UC Casteist & racist behavior. You're not a vegetarian by choice but because that's ALL you know, that's what you've been bought up with. Priding on the fact that you're a vegetarian is nothing but showing off your casteist side
For the longest time I actually thought that I'm a vegetarian by choice. But I'm not. It's coz I've never eaten non veg. If I ate non veg, didn't like it or wasn't ok with the idea of it, and then decided to go vegetarian, it's a CHOICE. If I've never eaten it, then it's not.
Ever seen how some people even jokingly tell "tune aaj non veg kha liya, dharam bhrashth ho gaya". You see that? Your religion and your caste is making you a vegetarian. You feel that your food choice is what makes you Superior and others lesser humans. It's disgusting.
I grew up never eating onions and the only garlic I ate was in garlic breads. They never came in our home coz we gave bhog to the Gods. I stopped eating eggs @ 15 when I moved here bcoz it wasn't allowed in my house. Once I ate onions I realized I don't really like them.
But garlic I like in my foods. Soni avoid onions but am using more of Garlic. THAT is choice. I plan to start eating eggs again coz I used love omelette as a kid. THAT is a choice. When I don't eat non-veg, thats NOT a choice. It's my conditioning.
It took me a while to realize that the grossness or disgust i felt for non veg wasn't because I found it disgusting, it's because I was TAUGHT to find it disgusting. It's not that hard to Introspect your behavior. We all are a part of a Bigoted society. Just TRY unlearning!
