Last night, just as an exercise, I tried to find out what was happening in Eden Monaro solely from News sources.
In sequence: Labor are likely to lose, special polling shows they will lose, they are losing, they will lose, even if they win it’s a loss, and the “loss” is the fault of Anthony Albanese and Black Lives Matter.
The actual result - there was still counting to do, but Labor were on track to a modest win - was buried as a 10th order inconvenience.
Since the year 2000, the media’s track record of prediction has been roughly on par with that of a novelty octopus. But this is something else.
