I think the inherent problem with the Snyder DCEU movies, in terms of the writing, is that no matter how many interesting themes he wants to incorporate he can never seem to make them all work in tandem with one another. Lots of big ideas. No real connective tissue.
Man of Steel: a Superman origin by way of a first contact invasion flavored with post 9/11 cynicism/optics.

Also: What if Superman is the answer to the oldest question in the universe? Nature versus nurture? Is Superman Jesus? What is the nature of free will? Does God have it?
Batman v Superman: a deconstructionist outlook on the nature of how we deify our heroes but fail to accept how human they are.

Also: Remember the God stuff? What IS Superman in a modern context? Is there a Justice League? Is God all powerful or all good?
Must superheroes follow due process? Must there be a Superman? Is humanity worth saving? What are superheroes comparable to? King Arthur? A new pantheon? God? A super friend group of Gods? If God were to fall, who would stop him? Who Justice the Justice Men? What is the future?
Oh yes, I think we should also cover the ideological divide of Batman and Superman in this Batman v Superman movie. Ok, so..............................................................................................................................................................
BVS ends with: Humanity's inability to accept the one true God will allow the Devil to come and take us all. Or something. I don't know, we need to tease Darkseid. Who is A Devil. But we already alluded to Zod being the Devil. So they're like co-Devils.
"Ok so Superman is Jesus and he's King Arthur. So he's going to die by both methods. Crucifixion and being sentenced to die by humanity. And we're going all Excalibur on his ass. Even though there was more to Excalibur than that. And we have more stories to tell with this guy"
