In the context of talking about BLM & statues, Lisa Nandy said she would "love to see us putting up monuments to the work, for example that Blair & Brown did around climate change" This seems incredibly off & tone-deaf & a complete misunderstanding of what the movement fights for
Tony Blair, doesn't have a good legacy when it comes to minorities, and our treatment in this country. It is also bizarre that when talking about erecting new statues in the context of BLM your first thought is Blair, Brown, William Hague & Margaret Beckett, not a black person.
I don't wish to blow this out of proportion, I realise she said a monument to 'their work' rather than statues of Blair & Brown themselves however I'm struggling to imagine what else that could be. This just isn't good enough when Labour's response has been so subpar thus far.
