This was @JoeBiden's first time appearing at Essence fest. In a normal year, it is one of the largest music festivals in the country, drawing more than a half of a million people to New Orleans annually.
Biden was 3 minutes into his pre-taped remarks when the audio dropped. The sound would remain muted for the duration of his Q&A. However @Essence posted the interview in full online. https://www.essence.com/feature/askjoebiden-essence-festival/
Although @JoeBiden talked about his plans for an overhaul of the criminal justice system and a national police oversight commission in his first 100 days, he didn't invoke the #SayHerName movement at Essence. In his published remarks he never said the name of #BreonnaTaylor.
Having covered the protests in D.C. and in Tulsa, Oklahoma, #BreonnaTalyor's name is mentioned alongside #GeorgeFloyd and other people who were killed by police.
Last year at Essence Festival criminal justice reform as well as #SayHerName were a hot topic in New Orleans.
