⚠️ TRIGGER WARNING: E*ting d*sorders

The normalization of EDs, ED twitter and why it’s problematic; a thread. https://twitter.com/strawberry_cals/status/1276486827499716608
•Disclamer

I’ll start off by saying I’ve had an ED, it was one of the most traumatic periods of my life, so I know what it’s like.

I’ll be talking about eating disorders, self-harm, and suicide.
•ED twitter shouldn’t exist.

You shouldn’t have a community joking about EDs like this, you shouldn’t have a community where you encourage what could possibly end as suicide.

Sure you can have a community for recovering, but that’s not what ED twitter is at all.
•Joking about EDs is unacceptable.

Yes, you can make jokes to cope, but none of these posts contain trigger warnings, and all of these practically encourage EDs, and that’s not coping.

As I said before my ED was one of the most traumatic experiences I’ve ever had and-
It is NOT funny. It’s NOT something you should casually joke about. It’s absolutely fucking terrifying.

I’ve seen so many of these accounts treat EDs like aesthetics, like trends, and it’s disgusting. EDs scars you for LIFE, it sticks with you like a stain you can never remove.
•How damaging the community is.

Looking at ED twitter it’s literally tips on how to starve yourself. It’s helping you with something that could end in suicide. It’s helping you into something that will traumatize you for life. It’s enforcing beauty standards

It’s toxic.
•Debunking the “we know we’re ill” argument.

Okay? That really doesn’t justify anything. You’re encouraging self harm, both mental and physical. You’re barely using any trigger warnings, you’re normalizing EDs, and making it into an aesthetic and trend.
•Conclusion

ED Twitter shouldn’t exist, it should all be closed down because it’s encouraging self harm, which is against TOS. It’s all extremely toxic, and I can’t even imagine the amount of young people who have been sucked into an ED or even lost their life because of this.
