Guru Purnima !!

Guru - Remover of darkness.

Mahavishnu, the protector of the three worlds, incarnates in this world from time to time to preserve Dharma.
There are 6 kinds of Avataras mentioned in Bhagavat Purana
One of such is Leela avataras - Mahavishnu incarnates to perform leelas and teach lesson to humanity and mankind.
Krishna Dwaipayana, often referred as Veda Vyasa is one of the Leela Avataras of Mahavishnu.
Vyasa acquired knowledge from the four Kumaras, Narada and from Brahma
"Vyasaya Vishnu Roopaya, Vyasa Roopaya Vishnave |
Namove Bhrama Nithaye, Vasishtaya Namo Namaha:||"

This sloka in Vishnu Sahasranama translates into - " My salutations to Vyasa who is in the form of Vishnu and to Vishnu in vyasa's form as possessor of knowlege of Brahman."
Vyasa's Works :
1. He categorized the eternal apaurusheya Vedas into four collections. ("Vyasa" means "the compiler")
2. Gave commentaries on Upanishads - the Brahmasutras.
3. Authored the Mahabarata - the fifth Veda.
4. Gave the essence of Vedas in the form of 18 puranas.
Another verse of Vishnu Sahasranama says :
" Rishir Naamnam Sahasrasya Veda Vyaso Mahamunih | "
Meaning :
"The great Veda Vyasa is the Seer of these thousand names of Vishnu" Such is Vyasa's glory. He imparted all his divine knowledge and hence he is equal in form of Vishnu.
On this day of Vyasa Purnima (or) Guru Purnima, the birthday of Vyasa and the day on which he compiled the divine vedas, let us all pray to him to give us divine knowledge and thank all our Gurus because of whom what we are today.
