The left’s assault on America and its core values of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness — including capitalism and its distribution of wealth according to earned merit as a necessary economic consequence — is fundamentally ideological. And it is extremely dangerous.
It’s pointless to try to shame hardcore leftists by accusing them of hating this country. That’s obvious. It’s pointless for them to even try to deny it. What is important is to attack them on fundamentals, their core ideas.
At the core, I think there are two types of leftists, although really different aspects of one type. One group is the egalitarians, the other is the nihilists. They both end up being the same person because destruction is the logical dead end of egalitarianism.
We are all equally human. We are equally entitled to the right of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We are entitled to equality of opportunity. But no one is entitled to equality of condition, whether it be wealth or happiness. We are entitled only to what we earn.
One of the objectives of our Constitution is the establishment of justice. Madison regarded this objective as the most important one. No human society has ever been perfectly just, and every person and society can always work harder to achieve a more perfect justice.
It is trite to say, therefore, that there have been injustices in American history. Of course this is true. We have also worked very hard as a nation to correct these injustices. But to seize upon them to advocate egalitarian and nihilism is a whole new level of malice and hate.
Egalitarianism and nihilism are the enemies of liberty and justice. We can have one or the other, but not both. And be honest about the true motives of so many people who claim to love America but hate its ideas and politico-economic system. Choose wisely, America.
