1. There's really no precedent for what we're trying to do at @SrebrenicaMC & BiH in European history. The European way of dealing with mass murder/genocide is forgetting. This is a fact. I'm not judging. Had we followed the European model, the war would have been allowed
2. to end, Bosnian Serb high-ranking officials arrested and quickly tried and sentenced and the rest turned into "allies" and included in the state-building effort. The past of the "ordinary people" would have been overlooked, as in the case of those implicated in the Holocaust
3. and life would have "moved on". Once again, I'm not judging, that's just way it is. That's also very often the source of misunderstanding between us and our European friends who insist on reconciliation. Reconciliation is easy to talk about when the group targeted for genocide
4. is simply no longer there, as was the case with the Jews in post-WWII Europe. However, there's no precedent for former victims returning to the sites and places where genocide was perpetrated and continuing to live there, even though in much smaller numbers.
