abled people: it's your time to show up for #DisabilityPrideMonth.
we, disabled people still have to do 99% of the work and advocacy for ourselves, because ableism still dominates every platform and every interaction.
disability isn't marketable. in a world dominated by ableism and the incredibly flawed and oppressive idea of 'wholeness', disability is deemed difficult, problematic, even ugly. as such, it's not suitable to make profit off of, and as a consequence, we lack the allies we need.
disability is normal. disability is okay. it can be just as joyful as being abled. we can be just as happy, just as prolific, just as accomplished as anyone else can.

our biggest problem is discrimination and ableism, in any and all aspects of our lives.
if you want to be a good ally and actually help us, not for your own gain or to prove your own selflessness and charitability, start to educate yourself on disability issues by READING THE WORK OF ACTUAL DISABLED PEOPLE and listening to our voices.
throughout the month, i intend to share lists, threads and articles that are good starting points for education and awareness.

listen to us and recognise how much you personally contribute to our difficulties. because you do. all of you do in ways you wouldn't even think of.
abled people: it's time to put in the work. #AdaptTheFeed
