We do know that almost no-one is actually down the pub don't we? They're at home - where they've been spending far more time than normal for months & will be spending it for months to come. That's why Covid makes housing inequalities matter so much more https://www.resolutionfoundation.org/publications/lockdown-living/
The young (and medium middle aged) are living in HALF the space of those aged 65+. And there are big gaps between white and BAME households, particularly amongst older groups
Damp conditions are much more likely to be experienced by the young, and the poor in all age groups under 65
1 in 5 children went through lockdown, and will be going through this whole pandemic, with no access to a garden. For BAME children double that, to almost 2 in 5
Obviously lots of things have improved housing quality wise - damp homes are far less common. Those improvements have been much bigger for older households.
Things cannot only get better - overcrowding is more common across all age groups today than it was 20 years ago. Well done us.
These big gaps in housing quality matter A LOT more during this pandemic. Home owners always have higher well-being than renters, but the gap increased significantly during lockdown
Full report by @fahmidarahman and Lindsay Judge, supported by @NuffieldFound is well worth your time, showing how decades of housing inequalities and policy failures (e.g on quality of private renting) have come home to roost https://www.resolutionfoundation.org/publications/lockdown-living/
