We have neglected our responsibilities to education since the inception of the state.

We have chronically under invested in Education & Childcare for decades.

We have no appropriate childcare system to facilitate parents working full time

We have (mostly) passively accepted the largest class sizes in Europe for decades

Despite economic booms we never invested in our school buildings or reducing class sizes.

We have never had concerted public or media pressure to appropriately invest in our education system.

Those decades of neglect now mean the health and safety advice of the HSE is impossible to implement for a full safe return to schools.

Despite this incredible level of continues neglect, we have one of the best education systems in Europe

Why is that?Could it have something to do with our highly qualified, dedicated and professional school staff?

Teachers who all got the points to go into more lucrative careers&still pick teaching despite pay inequality?SNAs who are repeatedly disrespected by Dept?

Media hacks now try to blame teachers, pushing gov agenda, ignoring generations of neglect that have caused this. Funny how they were silent on the lack of investment in Education for years. Funny how they didn't mention it during the election.

They didn't care. No one did.

Suddenly they care, because it now directly causes issues for them. And I get that, the burden this situation is putting on working parents, particularly working mothers is untenable.

But the under investment has been untenable for decades and we have shouted.

The absolute cheek of trying to blame this on teachers. The disingenuous comparisons while continuing to toady to the government who actually caused this situation.

Shame on every one of you. You're not journalists, you're shock merchants trying to cause conflict.
