Much of the generation gap in Christendom can be summarized as a battle between orthodoxy and orthopraxy. (A short thread...)
Older generations have fixated on doctrine and truth but failed to step into the public arena on behalf of the poor and the wounded. Younger generations are now fixated on justice and ethical living but have failed to uphold biblical doctrines.
The older generation believes their right belief is enough to spare them from having to act. The younger generation believes their right action is enough to spare them from having to declare doctrinal truth.
We have divorced the character of God. This isn't right. The way of Jesus is to be people of truth AND justice. Anything less isn't Christianity.
It's worth saying: There are ample exceptions to this dynamic. However, there is also ample evidence that for many, it's accurate. It leaves us all with the same question: Am I believing truth and living it out as God has told me to?
