Ok, it’s partially returned. (The toilet thought I had earlier)
We, humans, are obsessed with “othering”. It may be a throwback from early hominid days when we were threatened by anything (one?) that didn’t look exactly like us. But I honestly don’t know why, 1/
I just know it’s true. I did it myself this morning, when discussing white ppl, (I am one) and then almost tweeted something like “at least I’m not a white man, they’re blah blah blah whatever”. I caught myself. And said “why am I doing that?” Aloud to myself on the toilet 2/
And thought about what I truly believe, which is this: humans, all of us, have got to stop with this “us v them” binary. WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. All of it, the Covid, the racism, the poverty, the starvation, the pain pain pain WE ALL HAVE IT 3/
So WHHHYYYY are we SSSOOOOO judgemental of others? This makes me truly angry. It’s been shown in so many ways: our DNA is the same, our skeletons are the same, our blood is the same, our pain is the same, our souls are the same, who in the actual fuck 4/
Cares what our outsides look like? WHO CARES? who benefits from this othering we do? Truly. Who? Do you? Do you actually literally benefit from feeling/acting superior to other human beings? I think about the experiment that was done about having strangers stare at each other 5/
For minutes at a time. What was learned? Connection is love. Connection is healing. Connection is the answer. The minute we ‘see’ someone, really see them, and feel a connection to them, we heal. We expand humanity’s consciousness. And we stop othering because we recognize 6/
Each other. We recognize our common humanity, pain, hope, suffering and joy. How can we not? I don’t know how to get to the answers that we need, but I do know that right now, and for all recorded time, we’ve been doing this wrong.
