Thread: We've seen incredible growth in @LA_Sparks coverage- over 650% YOY. But there are still outlets/reporters that will only cover the men. The Sparks this year have @Candace_Parker @Nnemkadi30 @cgray209 @seimoneaugustus @TeaCooper2 @nograyareas21 @swiesebaby24
@riquna_w @KristineAnigwe @BrittBundlez @mary_gulitsch & Tierra Ruffin-Pratt as well as @Chiney321 & @KristiToliver a part of the team. If you haven't started covering these incredible women, it's time to wake up and stop falling asleep at the wheel. Women's sports coverage is
growing, no matter if your outlet participates or not. What side of history do you want to be on? When your name or outlet come up in sports journalism classes in the future, what do you want your legacy to be on how you covered women's sports?
Women's sports receives less than 4% of all sports media coverage. Even if you don't personally cover women's sports, no rational person could believe that's acceptable.
We've seen solid growth from @latimessports @ladailynews @CBSLA @TheAthletic as well as consistent coverage from independent outlets like @Winsidr @TheNextHoops @herhoopstats and incredibly innovative outlets like @GrlsTalkSports_ @madeforthew_ @HighlightHER @wslam to name a few
But we need everyone. We need you @ESPNLosAngeles. We need you @ringer. We need you @BleacherReport and @YahooSports. We've seen marginal efforts even from those that rarely cover women's sports. But we can't let the momentum stop. What is your outlets coverage plan for the WNBA?
Who's covering? And this isn't to say all sports reporters need to individually cover women's sports. But if your an NBA reporter and you think your outlet could be doing more to cover the WNBA, speak up. Help out. Encourage the editors who aren't educated on the league.
This was an incredible week of @LA_Sparks coverage from blogs, to print newspapers, to tv, to social media influencers. But that makes me more motivated to push for more. The women of the Sparks, the WNBA and all women's sports deserve equitable sports media coverage.
