This magnificent depiction of #mahabharata episode on stone is true testimony of how creative & advanced our civilization is
Lets Decode 🙏
The #elephant seen here is “Supratika” mounted by “Bhagadatta”
In the trunk of Supratika is Bhima, who is holding the elephant in one hand
Again Bhima is seen attacking Bhagadatta with mace on top of the Supratika

The episode goes thus.
Bhagadatta, Son of Naraka, was on Kaurava side in great war.

On 12th day of war, when Kauravas sent elephant army, Bhima vanished all the elephants creating havoc in Kaurava Sena
Bhagadatta, the great elephant rider came on his elephant Supratika to fight Bhima. Supratika took Bhima in trunk & crushed under its feet.

Bhima escaped narrowly creating havoc in Pandava Sena

In Continuation, Arjuna enters the field for which Bhagadatta releases the
Vaishnavastra towards Arjuna.

Rathasarathi – Sri Krishna stands up to face Vaishnavastra & It becomes Vaijayantimala on touching his chest.

Arjuna Kills Bhagadatta with his arrows.

But Bhagadatta is remembered for his Valor & War etiquettes
Sadly the tale of Bhagadatta is lost due to modern day mahabharat serials and soap opera descriptions

Bhagdatta was the king of pragjyotishpur in kamroop(Assam) meaning light of east
Bhagdatta s father narak wished to to sacrifice1600 virgins in a yagna to make
him omni powerful.
This girls wererescued by Shri Krishna .
According to traditions of that era. No one would marry these girls and doors of their parents were closed.
Hence as saviour of these girls.lrd krishna
Accepted them as brides

Bhagadatta was the oldest warrior in
the Mahabharat. He had very saggy wrinkles on his forehead due to which his eyes often used to get closed. For this, he wore a band to prevent closing of his eyes due to the saggy wrinkles. He was a fierce warrior and hard to conquer. Krishna advised Arjun to first
cut his band on the forehead Arjun did the same & Bhagadatta's eyes got closed due to saggy skin of forehead which poored his vision.

With this, Arjun finally killed Bhagadatta

Finally this temple is in Belur - Karnataka 🙏
