It used to be that you identified with the people physically closest to you for obvious reasons but the internet changes that whole dynamic.
We are where our minds are and the covid era showed where our minds literally had to be transported online to cope with being inside that much.
For example, it bothers me when people call Twitter an app because it seems to reduce the impact of what it really is which is its own society.
U know how it’s hard to explain to a non-twitter person why something is funny or outrageous because it requires a whole heap of back story. All of that back story is basically acculturation
Culture can be defined as the propagation of artificial instincts to override or add to our natural ones. And u can see where something like Twitter, with largely mental engagement, shifts culture and cultural norms more quickly than gen pop
It means that logging out of twitter and traveling an hour to a part of the country that is Facebook dominant might feel like extreme culture shock. The advanced information processing that happens on twitter takes a while to filter down to the other communities if at all
Imagine for example a government official who makes a proclamation at 4pm, undergoes a serious bashing for 8 hours and has to retract and offer an apology. The person who gets their news from the Gleaner for example might wonder what the hell happened and will definitely not..
...privy to the “back story”. Which presents an interesting situation for a government in this age where responsiveness is a key factor for social media points but unless the rest of the country gets up to speed, there is bound to be a disconnect
Well, just musing
