I always was confused About the presence of the statue. Turns out, Walla Walla had a large Italian immigrant community. So, they gifted the statue to the city of Walla Walla.

Look, I’m not trying to start a fight with a town of 42,000 people. However, if we’re going to put up a statue in Walla Walla, Washington of an important person, why not put up a statue of someone who contributed to the valley? Maybe someone who didn’t commit mass genocide?
