Here we go again w debates about blackness in Aust. Big shout out to @NayukaGorrie for their thoughts on this. So tiring that we have to have this convo again especially when it got extremely twisted and vitriolic a few years back and being dragged up now. People need to stop trying to fit US race politics here. I feel like a broken record as I've been saying this for about a decade now (as others have too). At the end of the day as blackfellas we were and still are racialised as Black. The colour of our skin largely doesn't matter
Black is how we are racialised and oppressed and Black is how we identify, fight back, resist and thrive. When using the acronym BIPOC it talks about Black as seperate to Indigenous. That may work in the US and other places, but it doesn't here...
....because to be Indigenous is to be Black. And NO, I am not saying non-Indigenous black people are not allowed to call themselves black!
FFS if you are trying to be woke and engage in race politics you should actually take time to learn the history of resistance on this land which is entirely Black-led (and I mean Indigenous!!) and be grateful for our mob paving the way.
