This is a thread about me doing some research on different religions to try to understand other’s way of thinking. It’ll be a long term thing.
So I’m starting with Mormonism bc it’s kinda misunderstood by a lot of people including myself. The only thing you hear about it is all of the bad stuff about it.
I should also say my religious background before getting into this so, I grew up Christian, Methodist to be specific, I practice Ghost Dance now as it’s debatably the most popular native religion. I also interpret the Bible on my own and don’t belong to any sector of
Christianity. I research and respect every religion and bring things that I believe into my own practices but I believe I have a connection with the earth and my ancestors before me.
So. Mormons. Their basic beliefs are that God has a human form, they’re family oriented and believe it’s an important entity. They avoid alcohol and smoking, along with caffeine. They encourage modesty, and ever since 1890 polygamy has been withdrawn from the Book of Mormon
So since 1890, the practice of polygamy has resulted in the excommunication of the one who practiced it. So in 1890, there are some who broke away to create a different sect of Mormonism to continue practicing polygamy. The biggest difference of this church compared to other
Christian sects is their interpretation of the afterlife. They believe there will be a time during your life on earth where you must accept salvation or deny it. And that decision determines what “sect” of heaven you will be in. There are 3 sects that are separated by
Your earthly deeds. Christ is still vital to Mormonism or the LDS community. But they’re secrecy raises concern for other sects of Christianity have placed harmful stereotypes on the religion itself causing hostility.
After a full day of reading up on the church of the Latter Day Saints, I can say for the most part, I’m pleasantly surprised. There’s some sketchy stuff that is in this religious organization like their sexual abuse hotline lawsuit but the people of the church,
Seem to be humble people who want to spread their truth to others in peace and without hostility.
They’re also currently working hard to diversify the church after being known as a predominantly white religion.
