I certainly hope people don’t think the media “likes” the number of coronavirus cases. If you do, allow me this moment to discuss. https://twitter.com/fineout/status/1278786070956695552
My husband is unemployed due to Covid. He was denied unemployment benefits. We are okay because of my job, but still.
I don’t know when I will see my father, who is 73 and recently went through a cancer scare. He lives in California.
My husband, who is a US citizen but was born in Italy, doesn’t know when he will see his parents or siblings in Italy. He speaks to his mother EVERY DAY and this is killing him to not be able to travel.
My anxiety and panic disorder is manageable but ever present. I worry about covering events and interviewing people in person.
I worry about the health of my friends, neighbors, and media colleagues. Three people from my news org have died.
To suggest that I, as a member of the media, “like” these stars is disappointing and upsetting.
*stats* not stars.
I’ve tried to do everything I can to be safe. I started staying home as much as possible and wearing a mask in public on March 19. Why? Because I care about the health of my community.
I want this over with, just like you. I have books to write. People to see. Places to go.
