Hugh Downs died. Downs not only co-hosted "TODAY" during its apex, he'd double down later in the morning/early afternoon & host "Concentration". He was The Man. His tenure encompassed the most shocking stories of the 20th Century, & the Dean Of Daytime possessed golden pipes
Hugh Downs AND Carl Reiner. They occupied about half my mornings when I was staying at home. Downs, and a helping of "Alan Brady" took you up until it was time to head outside & get some fresh air.
Downs was 99. Reiner was 98. They saw or shaped everything significant in U.S. tv the past 70 years. How many U.S. males live nearly a century? Downs is a game show host from the era of Parks, Fleming, Cullen & Ludden
Jack Barry the senior statesperson. Tom Kennedy the young buck. Contestant cards & boards w/ "revolving" squares. A lot of them were newspersons. Like John Cameron Daly, & Hugh Downs. Perhaps the most soothing male voice in studio news history.
