The Washington Redskins are not only my favorite football team. They are an institution in my family and my hometown going back almost a century. My grandfather had season tickets for years during the glory years. Took my uncles. Took me. Truly historic

But to me personally and to a lot of ppl my age?? That name and logo represents failure. A decline. A fall from grace. Old history. Embarrassment. Dysfunction. Shame.

I know the team at one time was a bastion of sports. But I’ve never experienced that. And it’s not just losing on the field. They are REVILED off of it. The owner is hated. Might be the most unpopular human being in this region.

He and the team has COMPLETELY lost the post SB generation of fans. They are gone. I am an exception. Most ppl I know my age cannot stand the team and actively root against them. These are ppl that live in DC. VA. PG County. In the team’s backyard. And they can’t stand them

The Washington Redskins. The logo. The name. The colors. The fight song. All obsolete. Irrelevant. Meaningless to so many ppl under 30. These are your “future” season ticket holders that are supposed to pass the team onto a future generation. Except they don’t exist

Now digest all of that and then to top it all off...their very name is a racial term. Dress it up however you want to. It is based on the skin color of a marginalized race of people. There is no disputing it.

So after all of that....CHANGE THE DAMN NAME. Stop the hemorrhaging of your brand. Get the top PR and marketing firms in a room and come up with a kick ass name and take back your fanbase before Lemar Jackson and Dak Prescott do.

Revive your brand. You have a new coach and a new young QB. Let them create something fun and new. Move quickly. You are one more Ravens SB victory away from being a minority in your own backyard @Redskins

And to the fans that lived the glory years and that name means a ton to you. You remember watching Art Monk and Riggo with your mom, dad, uncle, grand pop, etc. I totally understand your reservations. Those are great experiences and memories and they mean the world

But you’ll always have those memories. They can’t be taken from you. But if you want a hope at making new ones, a change HAS to be made. There isn’t a question of it anymore.

This is an opportunity to reinvigorate a brand that is irrelevant. For good PR that is as rare here as a playoff appearance is. Please be smart and proactive for once. Please @Redskins

The highest selling jersey in this area for 2018 was for Carson freaking Wentz. You drafted a cool ass stud QB in the first round last year. And he’s irrelevant in this city. No current player is in the top 5 most popular athletes in this city.

The team up 95 drafted a QB in 2018 and has potential to be the next Vick in terms of popular. You will lose your fanbase. No kid under 16 is going to root for Skins over the Ravens.

You’ve already lost half of PG County to Jerry Jones.

Anyways, the time is now. Decision has been made for you. It is a blessing in disguise. Take it. Right now.

Side note: I notice that the main ppl on the “keep the name” train are out of state fans. Guys, i don’t think you understand how bad it is here. Twitter is a bubble where you surround yourself with like minded ppl. On the streets?? “Skins nation” is feeble and gets weaker
