I think one of the big reasons why music feels so disposable now isn't just because of how easy it is to access via streaming etc.. But people simply don't listen deeply in the right environment any more. Laying down, headphones on, lights out etc.. It makes a huge difference.
I remember the first time I heard Lifeforms in the 90s, before I really got into ambient music. I had a cheap portable CD player, but reserved 90 mins of my life to just that album. No other distractions, only deep listening to the music. I think it's why it made such an impact.
You can't get that same kind of emotional attachment to an album by listening to it in front of a screen or on your phone. I can't anyway. I need complete isolation and time dedicated only to it. I still do these deep listens a few times a week. It keeps my love for music alive.
