1) Currently, the U.K government has no plans to support venues, musicians and touring personnel throughout the current Covid crisis.
2) Music not only provides people with joy, but it also allows thousands to survive and to create. This neglect of the music industry is devastating and ignorant, and many venues are on verge of closing down.
3) We do not study economics, but this lack of care for the live music industry (that adds £4.5bn yearly to the economy) is either seriously ill-informed or a direct attack on culture.
4) Of course the current social distancing restrictions have affected artists, but more importantly the venues and the touring staff that don’t ever see the limelight.
5) Without support there will be few venues remaining and there will be a shortage of people who have the skills to do live sound, lighting, staging etc, and the quality of shows will significantly be reduced.
6) The government need to be straight up and honest about what they are going to do, and need to think about the consequences of not taking action. Music is both an art and a means to get by for a lotttttt of people.
7) This needs to be addressed. Responsibility needs to be taken - you can’t ask for £1million to paint Boris’ plane but not cough up to support hundreds of thousands of people.
