Some information on the man who drove through the gates at Rideau Hall early this morning provided by multiple sources to @globalnews. The man had three long guns in the truck: a rifle and two shotguns. He had driven from Manitoba. #RCMP #cdnpoli
Yes, I am still on vacation but will be joining @GlobalNational tonight because I can't handle watching news happen when I might be able to gather some info. By around 3:30pm and I started reaching out to sources w my reporter instincts in overdrive so here we are.
Security sources say the man arrested gave no indication he planned to harm the Prime Minister. He allegedly wanted to speak to Prime Minister @JustinTrudeau and had driven to Ottawa to do so. He did not resist arrest and peacefully surrendered. #RCMP #cdnpoli
Some more info... RCMP sources say the man was confronted almost immediately upon smashing through the gates. He was contained by the RCMP who then spent until 08:30 talking him down and convincing him to surrender. Sources say RCMP did not want to have to shoot.
