Yet more garbage from our media. Allow me to point some things out to you that are problematic. https://twitter.com/Slate/status/1278718133671473152
Let's start with the headline. In no way is this article a case for Sen. Harris. It is a prime example of damning someone with faint praise. There are numerous examples that yell out the fact that the author has no respect for and quite likely actively dislikes the Senator.
Still on the headline - the sub-title part. I see you changed it. This isn't really better than the original "Why Overthink it?". Why the "never really nailed it" part? What's the point. Is this the case for EVERY candidate that dropped out? Are you writing about them also?
It's a little confusing to me that you seem to think that the Sen. being Black, Charismatic and no too old is what qualifies her and then you say she is ready to serve as President day one. What about what makes her ready for that? Where is that in this article?
I also have a bone to pick about this "not of the left" and "muddled politics". Sen. Harris consistently ranks as one of the most progressive Senators in office. In 2019 she ranked as the LEAST conservative Senator. Way less conservative than her "progressive" counterparts.
I'm laughing at your "...these are compelling points!" When the most important part (i.e. she would be ready day one) is something you say in passing and don't elaborate on. It seems pretty clear to me that you see Sen Harris as a token choice.
I'm pretty sure that every single paragraph of this article has some of that "faint praise" bs in it. Take the second paragraph here. The job is "...not as big a deal...". Really? And yet you think she is ready day one? So, what...am I to assume that being President isn't that
big a deal either? The job varies from admin to admin, it is however important and a "big deal". And wtf is "...neither above her nor beneath her...". Ffs, do you talk about male candidates this way? Are you going to rate every possible VP choice on this scale?
It just sounds so snobby and, frankly, sexist and racist. Loaded language used against marginalized people. Not really appropriate here.
*Sigh* What was the need to say "pretty good", you know it's those adjectives that are screaming your disdain for the Senator loud & clear. (And the blocking Trump from Twitter was not a misstep. He continuously tweets racist, violent, hateful things that should not be given air.
I mean...have you done actual research yourself on what she did as prosecutor? I think you are just miming others mindlessly. Take some time to understand the job, the times and the difficulty a Black woman would face.
Yes again see above for how progressive she really is. You keep trying to box her up and you keep getting it wrong. I don't even know what to say about the dig at Biden. Just going for a little gratuitous freebie there?
This. This is just ugly. Let's reduce the job to "just not that important" so it isn't above the Black woman? This is also where the truth behind this whole article comes up. Let me tell you that I suspect there is no future with Warren as majority leader.
She'd make a terrible one. She is oppositional, arrogant and not a team player at all. She doesn't listen to others because she thinks she has all the answers. And...again with the progressive bs. Who's progressive agenda? I assume you are talking about the white progressive one.
Oh look more dismissiveness...I'm sure CA can replace Sen Harris in a snap, hell they probably don't even remember who she is.
Just had to get another dig in there right? Her "abbreviated" campaign. Seriously? Again, are you saying that about all the people that ended campaigns? By the way saying that her supporters "aren't a meaningful faction" is seriously dismissive and quite likely racist given they
are the base of the democratic party and, I believe, majority BIPOC. I do agree that they aren't trying to operate a rival power center. Oh look...another ugly one, "...not so vital blah blah blah". I mean, hell, let's just put my grandson in if it's that unimportant.
Also, I'm glad to know that losing Sen Harris in the senate really would be no sacrifice. Hell people probably wouldn't even notice right?
