This month, we're highlighting TWO of our amazing volunteers who helped during the SC Primary. Now up: Amy Sommers ( @AmySommers1) who worked the Voter Protection Hotline for the Primary & Runoffs and has textbanked with us to recruit vols. #SCVoPro
Amy Sommers is an American lawyer whose career has focused on China-related matters. Her involvement in China goes back over 30 years, when she first started studying Mandarin.
For over a decade, she resided in Shanghai, advising multinational companies on their strategic initiatives, during a period of rapid economic development, social change and maturation in China’s legal system. She is a member of the National Committee of US-China Relations.
From 2012-16, Ms. Sommers served on the board of directors of anticorruption-focused nonprofit TRACE International, Inc.
She has held a range of roles in the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law, is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, and in 2016 received the Mayre Rasmussen Award for the Advancement of Women in International Law from the ABA Section of International Law.

"Folks repeatedly asked us some version of, 'We get that the first time you Americans maybe didn't know how bad he was, but now...?' In 2008 I was determined to help get a responsible leader in the White House and worked actively to get expatriate Americans...
"to register to vote, donate and turn out for Barack Obama (below is a picture of me with my older son and a friend celebrating election day - his election was celebrated by people of all nationalities)....
"Fast forward to 2016: I had moved back to the States and was dismayed by what I saw happening in our political system. I learned that in the wake of Obama's election, 25 states had adopted strict voter id laws and other restrictions on voting. Coincidence? I think not....
"Given this trend, protecting voters' ability to exercise their right to vote is more vital than ever, and I am grateful for the chance to support the efforts of South Carolina's Voter Protection Unit."
Thank you @AmySommers1 for all your work to protect the vote in South Carolina!
Fun fact: Amy resides in Seattle, WA & is able to volunteer completely long distance!
