So where do we begin with consent and smooching in TTRGPs?
Well, how about we start at the beginning! That means SAFETY TOOLS!
Don't know what Lines & Veils are? I suggest you go read up, cause this shit is GOOD.

Line & Veils are your first step to consent in ALL things TTRPG!
Lines are things your players NEVER want to happen in your games. Veils are things they don't mind happening, as long as they happen behind a veil! (fade to black / cut to another scene)

This will give you a rough look at what your players are and are not consenting to when they play your game.
And note, it's what they are / not consenting to OTHER players bringing up in the game as well! If the GM is the only one with the L&V doc, it's not being used properly!

Keep in mind, your players have the right to remove consent at any time. Just because "gore" doesn't start on your lines list doesn't mean it can't be added later.

However, something that is lacking from most Line & Veils documents are INVITATIONS!
Invitations are things your players WANT to see happen in the game! Romance, drama, backstabbing etc. can all make it into your list of invitations!

This is also a good time for the other players to look at the invitations and say, "Hey, I know you want X, Y, Z thing, but those actually make me uncomfortable. Can we move them to Veils?" and everyone gets yet another opportunity to consent!
This is where you will most often find ROMANCE & SMOOCHING! Right there in the invitations!
If it isn't there, and you as a GM are interested in seeing those things – bring it up to your players! Say, "Hey, is it cool if I add SMOOCHES to the L,V&I doc?"

This is where you will either receive or be denied consent to smooches in games! Some players may not want smooches for THEIR characters, but be fine with it for others! Jot all that down and move onto the next stage!

Sometimes, you're in that moment, and both players & characters are in that moment - and a kiss just FEELS right. There isn't a discussion, it just happens. BUT!

Your PC and the GM's NPC are leaning in. It's *obvious* you want the smooch. You put it on the invitation list. You told the GM you wanted it. And just when you think it's about to happen? The NPC says "Can I kiss you?"
FUCK. ME. UP.

If you don't think that shit is hot? You are WRONG. (Not taking comments.)
And then guess what, you get to say yes!? You get to just *lean in and kiss them* because they asked if you wanted it!
And guess what else.
You can change your goddamn mind.

You could have been leaning into that kiss READY. But when they say "Can I kiss you?" you suddenly are given the opportunity to say "Actually... I don't think we should." And TA DA - you can sit on it and wait for a better time for the smooch!
Or maybe it never comes at all and your PC will always wonder "what if I had said yes" - and that's the juice! That's the sexy drama!
This should be you as a player as well! If it's you and another PC, you and a NPC, all y'all about to bone it out, just say "Yo, is this okay?"

And PS: Just because you smooched once doesn't mean you get to smooch whenever. Make sure that if you aren't consenting verbally in character - you consent OOC.
