Good morning. This incident, and a recent state trooper use of force action against an OSU student, also in Corvallis, are more evidence that policing and police agencies in our state are broken at all levels including the state's own police force. #orpol 1/? https://twitter.com/ORStatePolice/status/1278718790927126528
Via #journalism, we learned of 4 troopers who flouted rules to keep us safer in a pandemic-- and they did so in their official capacity as state employees. **We paid for them to behave that way.** Yet we trust troopers to testify in court against our friends and neighbors? #orleg
If we can't trust troopers to respect the rule of law and their own chain of authority, how can we trust them with the lives and liberties of Oregonians? #orleg
Superintendent Hampton is a good boss. But he can't be everywhere. And one good apple doesn't sanctify the bunch.

Clearly our state's problems with police aren't about a few bad apples. None of these troopers held the others accountable. Zero intervened or insisted that the group act right. You think they'd behave better at night on a quiet road during a traffic stop w/out other witnesses?
I know some fellow state troopers are mad about how these troopers behaved. Let's be real though. People who behave as did those four aren't quiet about it. It's likely they these troopers have violated rules in clear view of other troopers and gotten away with it before.
And if fellow troopers are mad, embarrassed, and don't believe the mask-less troopers are standard bearers of their agency, what are they going to do about it?
I invite any interested troopers to start the work of reimagining public safety. It's past time. What we have now isn't working. What would you police professionals do to build it better? You troopers know #Oregon needs more addiction treatment and affordable housing. What else?
OSP should be proactive and join the work to #buildjustice. You're on notice that your agency is part of the problem. Don't wait for the next bad headline. #DoBetter. 8/8
