Don't abandon what you can't replace.

These were the parting words of Godo to Guts when he exposed him to his wrongful behavior of leaving Casca and Rickert behind.

The bearer of this lesson today is not only Guts, but also Rickert (a thread).
When Guts came back from his journey drenching himself in Darkness, Godo confronted him with his hypocrisy.

He went to war with apostles due to the eclipse, yet left behind what was most important to him, Casca.
After this talk, Guts changed his goal from revenge to bringing Casca to a safe place, who was lost at the time.

This marked a huge internal change within Guts and his ideals, and the one character who witnessed this change was Rickert.
Fast forward we see Rickert come to Falconia with Erica due to the dangers of Fantasia.

If it was up to him he would have left to the sea, but Erica being his responsibility led him to the city of his former leader.

He knew, that not only the Both had changed, but Griffith too
After Rickert slapped Griffith he obviously had to leave Falconia, but what about Erica?

Back then Godo said that she was his responsibility now, but leaving Falconia meant entering a dangerous territory again.

This is were Godos valuable lesson comes into play again.
When Griffith returned, Guts finally had the chance of getting his revenge instead of aimlessly hunting apostles through the night, yet he prioritized Casca. The image of Guts leaving the hill of swords with her in his arms was something that stuck with Rickert.
Which ultimately led his decision of taking Erica with him when he left Falconia, creating an unbelievable parallel between him and Guts and marking huge progress for his character.

Don't abandon what you can't replace. The bearer of this lesson was now Rickert.
