Few women academics, and rarely women of color academics, make it to full professor by age 40 (if at all, because of toxic institutional racism). Imagine how they feel... https://twitter.com/timminglab/status/1278623270820929537
Let’s also not forget that academia was created by white men to promote, support, gratify, amplify & normalize white men & their accomplishments as the standard. There are tons of research studies that have demosntrated how academia produces exclusionary spaces for non-white folx
If you’re interested to learn more about institutional mysogyny & institutional racism, there are lots of sources there (e.g. the book Presumed Incompetent),. Here’s an infographic that explains how women of color are institutionally pushed out. It applies to academia as well:
When white men profs w/ all sorts of privileges carry out tone deaf humblebrags, throw themselves a pity party, which garners more stoking of his ego & support, institutional whiteness is only reinforced. This isn’t to discount imposter syndrome tho, but to contextualize the OP.
There're multiple forms of contextual intersectionalities of exclusions that operate in academia (e.g. sexism, racism, ableism, heteronormativity, xenophobia, nativism, Islamophobia, anti-Semitism, ageism, etc). My initial tweet was to point out the most common forms missed by OP
There are some rebuttals & clapbacks to the OP, though not nearly enough compared to the support of his gratuitious compliment-fishing, but here’s a funny example from @acupunctureUSS: https://twitter.com/acupunctureuss/status/1278772779161194496?s=21 https://twitter.com/acupunctureuss/status/1278772779161194496
