Funny how different trans issues are always discussed in isolation so transphobes can come up with individual seemingly sensible justifications for every act of exclusion and avoid how that all adds up to trans people being forced to stay closeted or face horrific discrimination
You can’t have transition funded by insurance or national healthcare because why should normal people pay for you to self-mutilate. Pay for it yourself. But you can’t get a job because you’re visibly trans so you can’t even pay rent.
But you can’t go to a shelter for your gender because you don’t pass because you can’t afford transition, but you can’t go to a shelter for your assigned sex because if people identify you as trans you’ll get attacked, and you’ll probably get attacked at a mixed-sex shelter too.
So you stay on the street and do what you can, but then you’re picked up by police and they harass and/or attack you, and take you to jail, where you’re ‘protected’ by being tortured with solitary confinement, or subjected to further attacks if you’re not ‘protected’. Your fault.
If you didn’t want this you wouldn’t have done a crime. You had to to survive? Well why didn’t you just get a job? Nobody would hire you because you’re trans? Then why don’t you stay closeted? You can’t stay closeted or you’ll kill yourself? Well I was going to murder you anyway.
The bathroom thing is the same logic. To access basically any space for an extended time you have to be able to use the bathroom. To use the bathroom without grief you either have to stay closeted or pass perfectly; anybody else gets harassed in either the men's or the women's.
Hence, to access basically any space you have to either stay closeted and gender-conforming or pass perfectly.
To pass perfectly you have to transition, and transphobes will do everything they can to prevent access to transition, because they want to everyone to be able to identify targets for ostracization.
Identifying targets for ostracization depends on sniffing out any aberration from the gender binary. That means EVERYONE gets scrutinized and judged based on how well their bodies, voices, mannerisms, clothes, hair conform to the gender binary.
If any transphobe says they accept non-conformity so long as the person in question doesn't actually identify as trans, take that with a grain of salt, because inward identity won't count for shit when they're looking to harass people whose hands are too big or hair too long.
I mean, what scenario are they envisioning, really, when they say 'people can dress how they like, they just can't say they're a man/woman'?
Transphobe in bathroom: You can't be here, you're a man
Woman with big hands: I'm a woman
Tranpshobe: Oh? Let's see your uterus then
Transphobe in bathroom: You can't be here, you're a man
Woman with big hands: I'm a woman
Tranpshobe: Oh? Let's see your uterus then
The point isn't just to excise trans people from public life, though that's the first stage. The point is to excise gender conformity from public life, to force everyone to obey the strictest imaginable gender norms or be identified as trans, therefore nonhuman & unworthy of life
