We're 20 minutes in and this has already been outstanding https://twitter.com/SfNtweets/status/1278704239649447937?s=20
Fitzroy Wickham: URM is overused term that minimizes impact felt by black scientists/trainees.
Nil Addy: Be wary of tokenism. If BIPOC asked to participate they must be empowered/listened to.
Joanne Berger-Sweeney: Diversity in positions of power rather than as add-ons

Joanne Berger-Sweeney and @PhDeez laying out the reality with respect to black representation in the professoriate.
There has only been a 2% increase in the number of black, tenured professors over the past decade.

Joanne Berger-Sweeney giving a concrete example of what can be done when black scientists are in positions of power.
Of 180 faculty hires at Trinity she is committed to making sure at least 18 of those hires are black.

@DrNiiAddy: Faculty candidates that are allies, are needed to combat well intentioned color blindness, to push people into a position of discomfort so they can move towards becoming anti-racist
@PhDeez: Diversity fellowship programs (e.g. Diversity F31) aren't "easier" or less "meritorious" paths. Same standards of excellence apply. They exist to provide equity opportunities.
An F31, is an F31, is an F31.
An F31, is an F31, is an F31.
@DrNiiAddy: The argument that there aren't black scientists/trainees to be recruited or hired is no longer valid. Active recruitment is necessary. Lists (like this one http://crosstalk.cell.com/blog/100-inspiring-black-scientists-in-america) should be used.
To close out...Fitzroy Wickham: Primarily white institutions need to acknowledge that systemic racism allowed them to build generational wealth & advantages that black academics do not start out with. They need to accept responsibility for taking action to correct inequities.
So many more excellent points were made then just these but its hard to tweet while vigorously nodding for a straight 60 minutes.
