Dr. Smith delivered some really interesting hospitalization and vent outcome statistics yesterday. As of 6/25, there had been 1,300 Arkansans ever hospitalized and 203 Arkansans ever on a ventilator. The data below is based on hospitalizations and ventilated patients to that date
Hospitalizations
20% of patients ever hospitalized for Covid-19 in Arkansas were currently hospitalized as of June 25.
Using the 80% of hospitalizations that have a known outcome (discharge or death):
- 83% were discharged
- 17% died

Ventilator Outcomes
25% of patients ever on a ventilator for Covid-19 in Arkansas were currently on a ventilator as of June 25.
Using the 75% of ventilated patients with a known outcome (recovery or death):
- 38% were removed from the ventilator (recovered)
- 62% died

Something interesting to note is that using the data dating back to the beginning of the pandemic in Arkansas, 15.6% of Covid-hospitalized patients required a ventilator. However, throughout June, an average of 23.6% of Covid-hospitalized patients required a ventilator.
This may be showing us that as hospital space tightens, fewer of the less severe cases are hospitalized in favor of those more likely to require ventilator support.
