In the last 24 hours, more than 50 girls and women have accused an #Egyptian man of rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment. It is rare for a sexual predator to be held accountable anywhere and very brave of them to speak out

I can’t remember the last time so many women and girls spoke out en masse like in #Egypt.

They know justice isn’t on their side.
The regime is itself predatory - President Sisi was head of military intelligence when the military subjected female protestors to “virginity tests” and women who expose sexual assault/harassment are jailed, not their predators.
Also, as in many places, victim blaming and shaming by families and a conservative patriarchal society means victims of sexual violence will find little support/sympathy. So women and girls have only each other for support. #Egypt
The man that the women and girls say assaulted them is from a wealthy and connected family which is suing for defamation one of his victims https://twitter.com/mightbesalma/status/1278708948766527491?s=21 https://twitter.com/mightbesalma/status/1278708948766527491
Also: in recent weeks, two young women who have massive followings on TikTok and a dancer were arrested and charged with “inciting debauchery and violating family values.” For social media posts.

It’s instructive how patriarchy always looks for ways to punish and silence women.
