I get asked often if the number of patients JPS reports everyday includes people in the hospital *just* because of COVID-19 or if it also counts people who are hospitalized for other reasons but just happened to test positive.

Here's a thread on what the hospital told me. https://twitter.com/NicholeManna/status/1278347771322523648
The number includes *any* patient in the hospital who has tested positive, including those who weren't initially brought in because of COVID concerns. However, it's difficult for the hospital to get that breakdown every single day...
...because the folks who pull that data have to look at every patient's chart.

So the hospital's IT team pulled a snapshot of one moment in time so we could get an idea of the percentages.

The info they pulled was from June 30.
At the time they looked, there were 77 patients who tested positive for COVID. Of those, 73 showed up with a chief complaint of COVID symptoms. Meaning they were only there because of COVID.

Of those being treated for COVID, 4 were originally at the hospital for another reason.
Also, JPS only give a rolling total of the number of employees who have tested positive -- so I asked for a breakdown of that:

- 62 employees have been approved to return to work following COVID positive tests.
- 64 employees are currently out following positive test.
