If you ever wonder why you see more black doctors than other staff in the hospital. That is because medicine made efforts to fix is systemic racism while other fields have not.
Historically the medical field was WM and middle or upper class, serving a population that was diverse. What they found is women and minorities had worst outcomes because providers had a narrow view on how to treat people based on the paternalistic view they learned from society.
2. Luckily, some providers in power actually GAF about people dying and sought to change it. The last thing they wanted was to be continually blamed for deaths. They had a high death rate and DID something about it.
3. Now this is no defense of physicians, there are still a lot of issues and racism that is prevalent in medicine.

But in a few decades they were able to go from a field that would sit back and let Black people die of Syphillis and using male centered diagnoses on women
4. But when you have receptionists, techs, nurses and admin that is still White that alters diagnoses. A tech who did an ultrasound can tell a doctor the black pt appears to be faking, a nurse can not relay pain symptoms because she thinks a black mother is faking etc.
5. Several people having biases can add up before it even gets to the doctor. And until hospital staff seriously diversifies, change will happen slow in health care.
6. With all that said there has been no accountability in policing, corporations, government or other aspects of society that has tried to make a meaning effort in curbing their systemic racism. I fear the moral reckoning that is happening is more lip service than actual change
7. Until y’all start diversifiying your staff, your communities and who you vote for and until you start paying to the decades of research that has been done, the #BlackLivesMatter in your bio is cosmetic.
