AFAB people start out with less muscle mass, but pound for pound can and will gain the same muscle mass as AMAB folks with the same training protocol.

no actually, women have so many advantages in these sports its not even funny. in fact it’s kind of threatening, especially to sports that are so male dominated. you know whats totally badass?
when powerlifting coaches write programs for our trainees, we’re like

“you know what? she can handle more”
but also
“ehhh I don’t want to break him”

and its not rare that the day after a training session, I’m back in the gym while my male teammates are in epsom salt baths.
