When I became an academic, I was taught you make change by practicing civility. I wondered if civility prevented us from making real, radical transformation and, after listening to the most recent #SecretFeministAgenda (one of my favourite podcasts!), that thought was made clear.

Civility is when we offer critique but in a way that protects the feelings of those being critiqued. It is how the status quo and white supremacy maintains itself. The past three months have been intense.

The past three months have been intense. But none of the ways my allies or I have moved ahead have been realized through civility. Compassionate, collegial and caring, always. Civil, never again when it upholds injustice.
