Daily struggles of someone interested in #footballfinance, a thread.
I’m struggling with this. In an interview on @BBCBreakfast last August, after #buryfc collapsed, we warned of the fact that 20% of #EFL clubs were unstable. This #DCMS position should be no surprise. https://twitter.com/bbcsport/status/1278621938538221568

In August 2019 I had a chat, about the terrible mess of club finances in the #EFL with @andrewaloia. He asked some brilliant questions. I’d hoped my contributions would help the narrative.

Then @DrDanPlumley & I followed things up with a piece in @prospect_uk. @PollyRippon helped us out and we explored the impact on culture and society. Not just #footballfinance https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/bury-fc-news-stadium-debt-football-elegy
More recently, Rick Parry of the #EFL Warner #parliament about the frailties of club finances before, and then of #COVID-19. This stuff isn’t new. It’s the tip of the iceberg. Member clubs now have a responsibility to come together and solve the problems collectively.
The time to change is NOW. Park self interest. Work together on a common goal to protect the integrity of the system.
And expose those working against a common goal.
