As you can see in the thread, there can be a role for prosecutors as part of regime change (which isn’t close to what’s happening now) but there also needs to be a accountability for past harms and ongoing learning lest they continue their racist policies (as in South Africa)
A big function of a TRC is to remove fear of punishment (in South Africa they granted immunity for people who told their stories and took responsiboliry) so the truth can be told.
Reconciliation isn’t promised. That can only happen after truth has happened and if both parties agree on a way to repair the harm.
