#SunaBesha, is a special ritual of Ratha Yatra. It is also known as Rajadhiraja or Rajarajeshwara Besha. In this ritual, Lord Jagannath is embellished with gold ornaments along with Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra.
Suna Besha is usually observed 5 times in a year but nly this time during Asadha Ekadashi (the day after he returns from his journey to Gundicha Mandir), it is observed on the chariots of the Trinity parked in front of the Singhadwara
The gold ornaments are stored at the Temple's treasury known as "Ratna or Bhitara Bhandaraghara".
According to temple history, Suna Bhesha was introduced during the era of King Kapilendradeva in 1460 A.D. when the king returned after winning wars over the rulers of Deccan.
He brought 16 cart loads on 16 elephants which consisted of diamonds and golds. And the day he arrived Puri, he donated all these to the Trinity and instructed the temple priests to get ornaments crafted out of them.
