Love the hand wringing over live music in pubs and small venues. You never fucking got off the sofa to bother attending live music when you had it. For years I tried to get you all to see if you didn't go and see bands it would all vanish.
How often I saw musicians who had worked their socks off rehearsing, creating, doing their utmost to make original music stood in a corner on the floor in a pub playing to 4 people and being slagged off by the 'promoter' who'd done fuck all to promote the gig
for ' not bringing any punters in'. So called 'ticket deals' which were in fact pay-to-play. People - family members usually - coming in to watch their kid's/mate's band then loudly fucking off in the middle of the other band's set. Bands were treated like
absolute rubbish by these pubs and so called promoters. They were ripped off, humiliated, insulted and expected to be fucking grateful for it. That is the truth. These weren't the famous touring bands with the lights and production, the glittering show - but
it's where those bands came from. You're all happy to hero worship those tin gods and what you imagine their 'lifestyle' is. You forget they were once 'that bunch of fucking losers' in that pub playing to 6 people most of whom were too piss drunk to know WTF
was going on. When I was young we went to see live music in little places because we loved music. It didn't matter who was on. We might see 1 band out of 3 on that night we liked, or none. It was the music we wanted. Don't confuse 'entertainment' - covers
bands - with live original music. If you go see The Jam Experience or Not Quite Queen you're basically seeing jobbing musicians making a regular buck playing to drunks doing that moan along with the chorus shit. That's not original live music. You didn't like
original live music. You shouted 'play one we know for fuck's sake'. You chucked stuff and you talked loudly throughout. You stood with you back to the musicians and made sure they knew you thought they were idiots. You didn't turn up. Don't fucking get all
pious now about 'live music'. And big time promoters begging for money - fucking hilarious. Live Nation alone could fund every venue in this country through this period but they won't because they'll get the punters to feel weepy about the rich bands and
artistes they hero worship so they'll part with their cash to fund an institution so corrupt, so venal, so institutionally misogynist and racist it makes Trump's America look like a kindergarten tea party. Live music will live on because musicians can't not
be musicians. It's their blood, their life, their obsession. For decades they've been exploited by money grabbing bastards because of that. Now is YOUR chance to say enough
and wherever they find to set up and play - put the cooking lager down, get off the
sofa, switch off the Dead Eye and go and be with them. Listen to them. You won't like all of it. But sometimes you'll find a band or artist who will set the hair up on the back of your neck and speak to your soul. Fuck the #musicindustry. Support music.
